On this day in 1982, famous blues artist B.B. King donated his entire record collection to Mississippi University’s Centre for Study of Southern Culture.
Riley B. King, one of the seminal southern blues guitarists, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987 and decided to donate his massive music collection to his local University.
Including over 20,000 rare blues records, the collection would go some way towards cementing rhythm and blues’ true origins in the south of America and beyond.
