Today is the 69th birthday of one Roderick David Stewart.
Rod Stewart’s music was hugely successful throughout the late 60s and 70s along with his band the Faces.
‘Sailing’, ‘Maggie May’ and ‘You Wear it Well’ are just three of Rod’s six UK number ones, alongside his six number one albums; the latest of which, ‘Time’ was released in 2012.
In all, Stewart has amassed over 100 million record sales worldwide. He has also been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice, in 1994 as a solo artist and in 2012 as a member of Faces.
Despite being born in Highgate, London, Celtic-mad Rod has a deep passion for Scotland and even recorded a World Cup song for the Scottish National Football team in 1978. ‘Ole Ola’ hit number 4 in the charts as Scotland were dumped out of the tournament, held in Argentina, in the first round.
