Twelve years ago today, the first instalment of the Lord of the Rings film trilogy was released. ‘The Fellowship of The Ring’ would make over $47 million on its opening weekend.
Director Peter Jackson and his team would go on to rake-in over $281 million with the releases of ‘The Two Towers’ (2002) and ‘The Return of The King’ (2003).
J.R.R Tolkein’s original series of epic fantasy books were a worldwide smash and have been followed more recently by prequel title ‘The Hobbit’, also turned into a trilogy by New Zealander Jackson.
