Harrods shuts for The Beatles

On November 25th, 1965, Harrods shut for three hours so The Beatles could do their Christmas shopping. The department store  was established by founder Charles Henry Harrod in 1824. At the time, the business was located south of the River Thames in Southwark. On 16 November 1898, Harrods debuted England’s first “moving staircase” (escalator) in their Brompton Road stores, with nervous customers receiving brandy at the top to revive them after their ‘ordeal’.
